In May 2006 four individuals were discussing over coffee the lack of support and advice out there for the condition they had each been diagnosed with, and decided to start a support group up. In June 2006 was when the Fibromyalgia Support Group South Wales held their very first meeting, a year on they hold meetings in three different venues Swansea Vale, Glynneath and Port Talbot. Knowing it is going to take a long time to get meetings up and running in different areas of South Wales and knowing how important it is for individuals who have been diagnosed with Fibromaylgia to have help and support a website and forum has been set up by us. We hope the group will be successful in getting members to be more confident and proactive in their lives and with their healthcare.
Our main aims and objectives for the group are as follows:
• To provide Support and Information and advice for sufferers, their carers and families
• To provide a bi-monthly newsletter
• To keep up to date with research
• To communicate with the Welsh Assembly and lobby regarding research, treatment and benefits
• Raise Awareness within the NHS sending information to GP's, Specialists and Hospitals
• To raise awareness within society
• To have regular members meetings
• To provide information that will support sufferer's with benefit applications
